Would You Like a Tarot Read?

I offer tarot readings in a slightly unconventional way. I need some time to sit with the cards and my intuition before I can tell you what they're telling me. We meet for a fifteen minute intake session where we clarify your question and your current circumstances. And then I will deliver a write up with clarity, insight, and ideas (along with a picture of the spread) and send it to you within 72 hours.

A layout of tarot cards on a black cloth featuring celestial designs. The cards include 'The Sun,' 'The World,' 'The Hierophant,' and various cups and pentacles.

Will I Find Love?

Note: Yes or no questions are usually not great for Tarot, so the client and I talked and adjusted the question to be more like, “What should I know about romance opportunities before me?”

This querent didn’t need or want me to drill down too far on the individual cards or their particular meaning in each particular placement, but to focus more on the overall reading, so I’ll just be doing keywords for the cards and focusing on the narrative.

They chose a Celtic Cross spread. I should say that like many things that are practiced widely, the Celtic Cross has some disagreement about precise card meanings and which positions match with what meaning, but it really doesn’t matter as long as you’re using the same format every time. I use the form I learned out of the first couple of books I picked up and THEN realized there were a lot of different interpretations.

A tarot card depicting four wands, oriented vertically, with a vibrant yellow background and colorful elements at the base.

A reversed tarot card depicting the King of Wands, featuring a vibrant design with a figure in regal attire sitting on a colorful throne.
Past Position: King of Wands (Reversed)
Burnout from micromanagement. Authoritarianism. Arrogance. Lack of direction.
The Hierophant tarot card depicting a figure in religious attire sitting on a throne, raising one hand in blessing with a cross in the other hand, flanked by two followers.
Near Future Position: The Hierophant
Knowledge; Guidance; Conformity.
An image of two tarot cards laid on a dark patterned surface. The top card displays a hand holding a pentacle, and the bottom card features several chalices, some with various symbols, on a blue background.
Focus/“Reason” for the Reading.
Moving from delusory to reality. Clarity. Realism. Awakening to the need for action.
A tarot card featuring 'The Sun' with a bright sun, a child riding a white horse, and sunflowers in the background, placed on a dark textured cloth.
Best Possible Outcome/Higher Guidance:
Positivity. Abundance. Happiness. Clarity. Joy. Good juju.
A tarot card depicting the King of Cups in an upside-down position, featuring a king wearing a blue robe and holding two golden cups.
“You” position. King of Cups (Reversed)
Instability. Manipulation. Overextension.
A tarot card depicting the Ace of Cups in an upright position, featuring a golden cup with water flowing from it, surrounded by clouds and a bird at the bottom. The background is a textured black cloth with intricate designs.
External Influences. Ace of Cups Reversed
Emotional blockage. Inner conflict. Disappointment. Heartbreak.
Hopes and Fears: Lovers (Reversed)
Inner Conflict, Disharmony, Inner Conflict
A tarot card depicting 'The World', featuring a figure surrounded by a laurel wreath and holding two wands, set against a blue background.
The Outcome: The World
Completion. Successful end of a life cycle. Fulfillment.

So overall this is a wildly good reading, and the signs point to finding that love. Especially once a few personal obstacles are dealt with. The reversed four of wands coming up as the central problem led me to the insight that this person probably already knew the love interest, and was simply in a state of confusion and hesitation about whether it was really a thing. Perhaps an aquaintance who they simply hadn’t considered that way yet. Crossed by the Ace of Pentacles (crossing can mean contradiction or intensification depending on the context) is saying that a new opportunity is happening in the material world.

What it looks like to me is that they’re coming out of a period of trying too hard to micromanage their love life, and given the rest of the read and the fact that they told me they were hitting the dating apps pretty hard, I guessed that maybe they were trying to commodify a connection instead of enjoying something organic–like trying to order the perfect partner off a menu. And what they really needed was to shift from this fantasy/daydream. A couple of the cards even suggest that this level of control might be bordering on attempted manipulation but at least overextension of attempting to control, “fix,” or manage the situation. Time to let go a little.

These attempts to find “the perfect person” lead to uncrystallized desires (too many good options–a choice must be made) and a strong fear of being out of alignment with someone. A dating app can only tell you so much.

But The Sun in its position of near future or higher guidance, and The World in the future position really cinched it that this was going to be a good thing for the querent. Whether it was love in the form of exactly the romantic human partner they craved might not be the case. The cards have a way of being true, but not always exactly what one expects. But in any case, it’s hard to ignore how positive those two cards are and that they’re each in some sort of overarching or future position. The Sun is basically overwhelming success and positivity, and The World the cathartic and successful end of a cycle and the beginning of a new, positive one. Both great portents for finding someone(?) and moving into the next phase of life.

Update: Between giving the querent the results of their reading and this publishing, the querent approached someone they were in a friendship with (they never really get involved with ANYONE they weren’t friends with first, so that part tracked for them) and hit off an amazing relationship that is now at four months.
