Now some tech­ni­cal instruc­tions. The arti­cle comes in dif­fer­ent for­mats, accord­ing to the way you want to use it and to your print­er.

Chris’s Edi­tor is very embar­rassed to admit that she had­n’t checked that the QR Code Gen­er­a­tor web­site she used was a sub­scrip­tion site. 1. Sim­ple 8.5 x 11 print­out on any print­er

Down­load the “Sim­ple Article.pdf” file, print it out on any print­er. If your print­er can man­age it, two-sided print­ing is bet­ter for the plan­et. Just sayin’.

2. Inte­grat­ed book­let 5.5 x 8.5 print­out (requires two-sided print­er)

Down­load the “Inte­grat­ed Book­let” file. Print it out on a print­er that does duplex (two-sided) print­ing. Check that your set­tings include Por­trait ori­en­ta­tion, Duplex print­ing acti­vat­ed, Flip Short edge (that one is very impor­tant), and Col­or if that’s what you want. The print­ing use 9 sheets of 8.5 x 11 paper. The pages will print in the right order to form a book­let when they’re fold­ed down the mid­dle. Hint: check that your inside sheets are stacked so that your top sheet shows page 16 (left side) and page 17 (right side), and that the right sides of the stacked sheets fol­low this order, from top to bot­tom: 17, 19, 21, 23, 25, 27, 29, 31, Inside Back Cov­er. Turn the stack (the stack, NOT the indi­vid­ual pages) so the cov­er becomes the top sheet, align all edges as best you can, sta­ple it using the hair­line guides, then fold it in 2 down the mid­dle. Unfor­tu­nate­ly, the edges will not lie per­fect­ly smooth, and a home office paper cut­ter won’t do the best job. If you want a crisp pro­fes­sion­al appear­ance, I sug­gest you have the fold­ing, sta­pling and cut­ting done using pro­fes­sion­al machines, at your friend­ly office sup­plies store.

3. Sep­a­rate cov­er and inside pages files for a 5.5 x 8.5 book­let with a cov­er print­ed on a dif­fer­ent (e.g. thick­er) paper (requires two-sided print­er)

Down­load both the “Sep. Cover.pdf” and “Sep. Inside.pdf” files. Print it out on a print­er that does duplex (two-sided) print­ing. Check that your set­tings include Por­trait ori­en­ta­tion, Duplex print­ing acti­vat­ed, Flip Short edge (that one is very impor­tant), and Col­or if that’s what you want. The “Sep. Down­load the Zip file “One-sided Print­er Booklet.pdf.” Unzip it to get a fold­er of files labeled 1A.pdf, 1 B.pdf, 2A.pdf, 2B.pdf, etc. Print the file “Sheet 1A.pdf” on one side of a sheet of 8.5 x 11 paper, mak­ing sure you’re using Por­trait ori­en­ta­tion, then print the file “Sheet 1B.pdf” on the oth­er side (how to man­age this will depend on your print­er; you can also use thick­er stock for this if you wish). Print all files this way, from Sheet 2A/Sheet 2B to Sheet 9A/Sheet 9B. Stack the sheets in the order they were print­ed, with the B sides on top, Sheet 1 the bot­tom sheet, Sheet 9 the top sheet.
