Folks, you’ve probably noticed that I’m absolutely trying to get back to posting more regularly. But maybe you noticed that last week, I didn’t get going until Wednesday. That’s because I had a side gig passing out fliers that I had to take. You see, where we go from here is sort of up to all of you.

I’m not going to ever do this quite as relentlessly as I used to. The post a day and sometimes weekends—that was too much. And even when I was absolutely lighting up the night sky with a beacon visible from orbit with the fire of my productivity, I wasn’t getting to my own fiction, and my work-life balance got completely out of whack. I got some feedback that I could use a little quality over quantity and, in the days before just before my cancer diagnosis, I was trying to lean into that.

I do want to hit three new posts a week consistently. Plus I’ve been bringing over particularly good reruns from the old blog location one at a time.

But I can’t do it without you. Right now, if I get offered a side gig, I have to take it. (And we will be getting into how my advice to “write every day” if you want to be a working writer bears out in reverse.) If I pick up a CPT client—even if they want their session right in the middle of my writing time—I have to take them. You may have even noticed that one of my posts from earlier this month was about my pet sitting side-gig. It won’t be the last such post, as I need to get the foundation established for my “ten side-gigs in a trenchcoat” income stream. My financial situation, at present, does not provide me with a lot of choice.

I’m never going to stop being a part time personal trainer or go back to writing five days a week, but if you like what I do, and you want it coming up topically, consistently and reliably each week, I need your help.

Now I’m about to “lock my office door*” for the weekend and do some writing. But the first thing I’m going to work on is two different newsletters for my Patrons (the $3 patrons get access to a monthly behind-the-scenes update and at $25, I delve into what’s really been going on in my personal life). These are the closest thing I will ever have to exclusive content. They are my small way of saying thank you to folks who keep the lights on, and more importantly, who keep me writing.

[*I have neither an office nor a lock on my door, but “work hard” needed some zhuzh.]

I’m going to have to raise my patreon prices soon. Inflation is rampant and my lowest reward tier is not helping me enough with keeping groceries in the fridge. Many other tiers will be bumping up a little as well. Going forward, the rewards that you get today for $3 will cost $5. But if you get in now, you can lock in the current rewards at their current contribution rate in perpetuity. AND if you give for a year at a time, you get a further discount.

If you’ve been waiting until I’m back to support me, I fully understand. The last five years have been something out of a Lemony Snicket book, and with the exception of my Fascism Resistance Playbook, I’ve written more in the last two months than in two whole years before. But the words are flowing again. This is the place to get advice about writing, social justice perspectives, a personal pagan priest’s journey, some insight into polyamory and consensual non-monogamy, health and fitness strategies, and So now is the time to reestablish your contribution or just become a patron for the first time.

However, I’m writing about as fast as I can right now until/unless I have the financial security to pass up a side gig to keep going, so if you like what I do and care to see more of it in the world, I could really use your support.
